Spin Ceramics

Ceramics pieces that are "stunningly unique works of art that seamlessly blend form with function"

We fell in love with Spin the moment we stepped into their Shanghai store. The mesmerizing array of mostly white ceramic pieces against dark wood in an exhibition-like setting made us giddy with anticipation. As we moved from piece to piece, it became clear that our credit cards were going to take a hit – there were just too many pieces we wanted to bring home. These are contemporary pieces crafted by millennia-old traditional methods in the famous ceramics capital of China, Jingdezhen, that would actually fit in a modern home. The company describes it thusly: “Spin’s designers create stunningly unique works of art that seamlessly blend form with function, all while keeping a whimsical sense of humor and playful irreverence for design norms.” Some of our favorite pieces are the whimsical vase collections such as the Kung Fu, 12 Faces, and the Water Bag Vases, and unique functional pieces such as the Hand Painted Relief Plate Set, Calabash Bowls, and Ring Espresso Cups. The vases and sets come in beautiful tong wood gift boxes. Tip: prices are considerably lower in Shanghai than in their overseas branches.

Varies. RMB 50+ for a bowl to RMB 1,000+ for a set of vases.
